World Environment School
The World Environment School (WES) is set to become the first institution in India and South Asia dedicated to leading the movement in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
Overview
The school aims to foster environmental awareness and provide high-quality, future-oriented education grounded in core environmental values.
WES will offer a transformative learning experience through:
- Value-based education
- Flexible and innovative learning spaces
- An internationally aligned curriculum
- A strong regional and global focus
To ensure academic excellence and relevance, The Centre for Environment Education (CEE)—a national-level Centre of Excellence in environmental education—has partnered with Mobius Foundation to co-develop a robust and meaningful curriculum framework.
How We Do It
The WES curriculum adopts CEE’s activity and inquiry-based pedagogy, designed to enhance students’ critical thinking and cognitive abilities. A comprehensive review of existing practices in schools across India was conducted to inform this approach. In addition, key insights were gathered through:
- A dedicated working session at the International Conference on Sustainability Education (2019), bringing in global perspectives from planners and practitioners.
- A focused curriculum development consultation workshop, which provided expert recommendations on teaching, learning, and assessment strategies aimed at nurturing lifelong learners and responsible global citizens.
The World Environment School will represent a bold and timely step toward embedding sustainability at the heart of education in South Asia.
