Championing a New Model of Learning Growth & Sustainability

The World Environment School (WES) is set to become the first institution in India and South Asia dedicated to leading the movement in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

Overview​

The school aims to foster environmental awareness and provide high-quality, future-oriented education grounded in core environmental values.

WES will offer a transformative learning experience through:

To ensure academic excellence and relevance, The Centre for Environment Education (CEE)—a national-level Centre of Excellence in environmental education—has partnered with Mobius Foundation to co-develop a robust and meaningful curriculum framework.

How We Do It

The WES curriculum adopts CEE’s activity and inquiry-based pedagogy, designed to enhance students’ critical thinking and cognitive abilities. A comprehensive review of existing practices in schools across India was conducted to inform this approach. In addition, key insights were gathered through:

  • A dedicated working session at the International Conference on Sustainability Education (2019), bringing in global perspectives from planners and practitioners.
  • A focused curriculum development consultation workshop, which provided expert recommendations on teaching, learning, and assessment strategies aimed at nurturing lifelong learners and responsible global citizens.

The World Environment School will represent a bold and timely step toward embedding sustainability at the heart of education in South Asia.
