Overview

India, with the world’s largest dairy population, faces a dual challenge and opportunity: managing methane emissions from livestock and empowering rural communities. Nearly 48% of India’s methane emissions originate from livestock. However, this byproduct of dairy farming can be converted into a sustainable solution.

The Mobius Foundation, through its Household Biogas Project, launched in December 2024, aims to reduce emissions, improve waste management, and support rural livelihoods by converting cattle waste into biogas and organic fertilizer — fostering both environmental sustainability and economic empowerment by collaborating with women-led Milk Producer Companies (MPCs).
